About The Adoption Project

Welcome to The Adoption Projects! We have been providing guidance and tools to trauma parents, based on real life experiences since 2014. With our experience in fostering, adopting, and through research, we have tried the tools we teach, and know they work. We are here to help other parents and families succeed in parenting trauma children.

Our Story

In 2014, my husband and I were parents to five biological children. We felt that prepared us enough to begin our fostering journey. Shortly into fostering, we decided we were called to adopt. A sibling group of three and another single child later, we were parents to 9 children. We were not prepared for what was to come. Our traditional parenting skills and strategies were not working. Truthfully, we seemed to be making our adopted children’s behaviors worse. We felt lost, alone, frustrated, and broken without answers.

Less than a year into adoption, we began our fight for resources, knowledge, and tools. We learned about trauma, grief and loss in adoption, developmental trauma (formerly known as reactive attachment disorder), survival mode and fight flight freeze, trauma responses, and where all our adopted kids’ maladaptive behaviors came from.

Our focus then shifted to resources and effective parenting tools for our trauma kids. At the same time, we learned how to care for ourselves, our partnership, and our other children, extended family, and friends. It was not easy, but here we are ready to share and help other parents like us!

We have made it our life’s mission to do for other trauma parents, what we needed for ourselves many years ago, without having to fight, beg, plead, fail, and then start over again. We are still learning from others. We still want to improve. We are still moving forward and fighting for awareness, rights to successful treatment, higher education requirements for professionals, and for the truth about adoption and trauma parenting to be heard by the world.

Who Do We Work With?

We primarily work with parents and families of adopted children. Adoption also means guardianship or kinship placements. We also work with parents and families in unique situations. These families might include, but are not limited too, children that are multiples in a single pregnancy/birth, children from unwanted pregnancies, children with traumatic beginnings and high medical needs during pregnancy through birth and infancy, children with parents/primary caregivers who experienced domestic violence, children with parents and primary caregivers who experienced postpartum depression.

If you suspect your child suffers from developmental trauma (formerly know as reactive attachment disorder), schedule an initial consult. They are free! What should you expect now that I have requested an initial consult? If you are deciding to chose us, click here to schedule an initial consult. They are free. If you have already requested an initial consult, we are reviewing your request and will reach out to you soon! We can’t wait to meet you!
